Where to Eat Breakfast in Castara, Tobago: Caribbean Kitchen Review
Slow mornings, scenic views, and deliciously healthy eats
Tucked into the hillside above Castara Bay, Caribbean Kitchen is one of those places that makes you slow down and breathe a little deeper. Whether you’re staying in Castara or passing through like we were, it’s a peaceful and rewarding spot to enjoy a fresh, nourishing breakfast with some of the best views in the area.
We actually stayed in Parlatuvier (at this apartment) and had planned to visit a few other breakfast spots — but at 8:30am on a Saturday, most were still closed. Luckily, Caribbean Kitchen was open and welcoming.

Getting There
The restaurant is part of Castara Retreats, perched above the village with sweeping views of the bay. We tried to drive up the steep hill to the restaurant itself, but with only a few parking spots available (and all of them full), we ended up parking at the base and walking up. There’s a sign noting that it’s about a 5-minute walk — and yes, it’s a climb, but it’s totally worth it for the reward at the top.

Coffee, Tea & Watermelon, Please
We started with lattes, which were smooth, well-balanced, and genuinely delicious — easily among the best we’ve had on the island. They’re made using “Full Bloom” Brazilian medium-roast coffee, roasted in small batches in Trinidad. A real treat for any coffee lover visiting Tobago.
When our drinks arrived, they were served alongside a surprise plate of fresh watermelon, which was such a refreshing touch on a warm Caribbean morning.
While waiting for our food, we also tried the chai tea — part of their Teabago collection, which features both local and imported teas from sustainable, fair trade farms. The blend we had was subtly spiced and incredibly soothing, perfect for a relaxed start to the day.

What We Ordered
- Island Greens – Poached egg on seeded toast with pimento lime butter (TTD $80). I added an extra poached egg (TTD $15) and bacon (TTD $28), which I definitely recommend if you’re craving something a bit heartier.
- House-Cured Sailfish Salad – which also came with a soft-boiled egg, house-made pickles, and a fried bake (TTD $80). The flavors were fresh and vibrant — definitely a lighter, more wholesome way to start the day.
We both enjoyed our dishes, but they lean on the healthy side. If you’re a bigger breakfast eater, consider adding on an extra item or two like I did.

The Vibe
Peaceful doesn’t even begin to cover it. There were only a handful of other diners when we arrived, which made the whole experience feel extra serene. From our table, we had stunning views of Castara Bay, with hummingbirds flitting around nearby feeders and the soft sounds of nature all around us.
At one point, we spotted the local fishermen down in the bay pulling in their nets — such a cool and authentic glimpse of village life. After breakfast, we headed down to the beach to get a closer look.

There was one server and one cook working that morning. Our server was friendly. It’s worth noting that service is slow — our breakfast took around 40 minutes to arrive. That said, with the drinks, watermelon, and view, we truly didn’t mind. Another reminder to slow down and enjoy the moment.
