View of Coco Reef Resort Tobago

Coco Reef Resort and Spa in Crown Point, Tobago, is one of those destinations that promises a true tropical escape. In this Coco Reef Resort Tobago review, I’ll share why this resort combines the best of both worlds: luxurious amenities and the authentic charm of Tobago’s natural beauty. I had the pleasure of staying here during our January 2020 trip to the island, and it was everything I’d hoped for—and more. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway with excellent service, stunning views, and easy access to top attractions, Coco Reef Resort and Spa is the place for you.”

Location Overview: Unbeatable Beachfront Access in Tobago

Coco Reef Resort and Spa is located in Crown Point, one of the most popular areas in Tobago. The resort sits on a breathtaking private beachfront, offering stunning views of the endless turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. From the moment you arrive, the beauty of the location captivates you. The beach is right on your doorstep, offering easy access to some of the best swimming, snorkelling, and relaxing the island has to offer.

The resort is a short drive from the ANR Robinson International Airport, making it a convenient option for travellers. The resort can arrange for airport transfers at an additional cost. It’s a convenient option for those looking for a seamless arrival experience. We opted for a car rental during our visit to make getting around the island simple.

Scarborough, the capital of Tobago, is around a 20-minute drive away, offering plenty of options for shopping, dining, and exploring local culture.

Accommodation Overview: Comfort and Luxury at Its Finest

Coco Reef Resort Tobago Lobby

Coco Reef’s guest accommodations feature tropical elegance with Saltillo tiled patios and balconies, exquisite wall stencils, tiled vanities and the very finest hand-crafted wicker furniture. The decor and furnishings have been specially chosen to reflect the local culture and art. Of Coco Reef’s total of 135 rooms, suites and villas, 114 have ocean views. The overall tropical aesthetic of the rooms provide a tranquil, inviting experience.

We stayed in one of their garden/pool view rooms The room had a king-sized bed and offered a restful nights’ sleep. They left a sweet message on the bed for us each day. The large private balcony with stunning views of the pool and the crystal-clear sea is the perfect spot for watching sunsets or sipping morning coffee.

Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with family, there’s a room option to suit your needs.

Resort Amenities: Everything You Need for a Relaxing Stay

Coco Reef Resort and Spa offers a wide range of amenities designed to cater to every kind of traveler. The staff meticulously maintains the resort’s grounds, ensuring there’s always something to enjoy.

swimming pools and beach access

The resort boasts multiple swimming pools, including a large freshwater pool and a more intimate plunge pool. However, what truly sets it apart is the direct access to the private beach. I spent most of my time lounging on the beach or swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and it was a true highlight. The private beach area is outlined by a coral reef. This creates a great place to snorkel (see activities below). It is not overly crowded or too busy. Beach chairs are available at no cost to hotel guests. Beach attendants will check on you throughout the day and serve drinks.

spa and wellness

For those looking to unwind even further, the resort’s spa is an absolute must-try. During our last visit, Rich had a pedicure and they applied “Nails for Males.” The spa offers a wide range of treatments, from massages to facials, and the staff is professional and attentive.

dining

The cuisine of Tobago is exceptional, benefiting from the amazing variety and quality of local produce. Coco Reef Resort & Spa offers you the choice of two restaurants and two bars on property and one restaurant & bar off-property. There are meal package options available – we select the breakfast package. Their breakfast buffet is a must try which includes a wide selection of local specialities and breakfast classics. Each morning you can enjoy a large breakfast overlooking the ocean to properly fuel up for a busy day ahead.

activities and entertainment

Whether you want to try water sports like kayaking and snorkelling, or just relax on the beach, the resort offers a variety of activities which you have access to at no additional cost. I highly recommend taking part in the snorkelling as there are hundreds of beautiful tropical fish around the coral reef. The beach hut staff were helpful and knowledgeable, making sure I had everything I needed for an enjoyable experience.

Pricing and Booking Tips: Worth the Investment

When I stayed at Coco Reef Resort and Spa, I found the rates to be a bit on the higher side compared to other accommodations in the area. However, considering the beachfront location, the luxurious amenities, and the exceptional service, and meal package, I thought the experience was well worth the investment. Prices tend to vary depending on the time of year, with peak season (December to April) being more expensive.

You can expect to pay around $200–$300 USD per night for a beachfront room, which is on par with many other upscale resorts in the region. You can book online through Expedia. If you are a T&T local, contact the resort directly to book your stay and take advantage of the locals discount.

One thing I recommend when booking is to keep an eye on special offers or packages that might be available. The resort often has deals that include breakfast, spa credits, or other perks, which can add extra value to your stay. Booking in advance, especially during peak season, is always a good idea to secure the best rates.

Pros and Cons: Coco Reef Resort Tobago

Pros:

  • Beachfront Location: Direct access to a stunning beach made this an ideal choice for beach lovers. I could wake up and walk straight to the sand, which made the experience even more special.
  • Excellent Service: The staff were always friendly, accommodating, and professional. Whether it was check-in, dining, or arranging activities, everything was seamless.
  • Well-maintained Facilities: From the pools to the rooms, everything was clean, well-kept, and in excellent condition. The resort’s attention to detail really stood out.
  • Variety of Activities: There’s something for everyone here, from lounging on the beach to indulging in a spa treatment. The variety of options made it easy to tailor my experience to my preferences.

Cons:

  • Higher Price Point: While the resort offers excellent value for the experience, it is on the pricier side. If you’re on a tight budget, this might not be the most affordable option.
  • Limited Nightlife: For those looking for vibrant nightlife, the resort might feel a bit quiet in the evenings. While it’s perfect for a relaxing getaway, it might not suit everyone’s tastes if you’re after lively entertainment.
  • Outdated: I found the decor and aesthetic of the resort to be a bit outdated.

Nearby Attractions and Things to Do: Exploring the Best of Tobago

Coco Reef Resort and Spa is well-situated to explore some of Tobago’s top attractions. Here are a few highlights from my trip:

  • Pigeon Point Beach: Just a short walk or drive from the resort, this is one of the most iconic beaches in Tobago. With calm waters and soft sand, it’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying local food from beachside vendors.
  • Buccoo Reef: A popular spot for snorkelling and diving, Buccoo Reef offers vibrant marine life and crystal-clear waters. I took a classic glass bottom boat tour and had an amazing time exploring the underwater world.
  • Store Bay: Another beautiful beach nearby (right beside the private beach), Store Bay, is known for its lively atmosphere and local food stalls.
  • Fort King George: For a taste of history, visit Fort King George, which offers sweeping views of Scarborough and the surrounding coastline.
