Barbados Affordable Seaside Stay: Ocean Spray Apartments Review
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly place to stay in Barbados without sacrificing ocean views and island charm, Ocean Spray Apartments in Inch Marlow, Christ Church, is a great option to consider. Off the beaten path, this is one of the most affordable accommodations we found on the island. It delivered a surprisingly pleasant stay with Caribbean character.

Convenient Location Near the Airport
Ocean Spray Apartments is located about a 15-minute drive from Grantley Adams International Airport, making it an easy first stop upon arrival in Barbados. After picking up our rental car, we headed straight to the property following Waze directions. You have to drive down a very narrow side street (with lots of potholes) to reach the Apartment. If you aren’t a skilled driver or have a very low car, you will find it challenging to navigate.
Parking was straightforward, with a clearly marked lot and ample spaces for all guests. We were even able to pull up directly to reception to unload our bags before parking, which made check-in smooth and stress-free.
The Lobby & First Impressions
The property itself has a mix of plaster and stone exterior with a European feel, accented by lush tropical landscaping. The lobby area felt simple but welcoming, and we were quickly checked into our second-floor unit. If you look closely at the exterior, you will find wear and tear.
Our Unit at Ocean Spray Apartments in Barbados

Bathroom
The bathroom was spacious with plenty of storage, a large shower, toilet, and sink with counter space. Complimentary toiletries included hand soap, conditioner, and body lotion. I would have loved to see shower gel provided. The unit came with two bath towels, but we were able to request beach towels for our adventures, which was a great touch.
Living & Sleeping Area
The main area featured a queen-size bed, two side tables, a dining table with two chairs, a TV, and AC. While functional, I found the bed to be less than comfortable—a few springs stuck out, and the pillows were quite thin (only three provided).
That said, the AC kept the room nice and cool, and falling asleep to the sound of waves and whistling frogs outside was a unique Caribbean experience.
Kitchenette
The fully equipped kitchenette included a stove, fridge, sink, coffee pot, toaster, dishes, cutlery, and pots and pans. While the setup was perfect for self-catering, we chose not to cook during our trip and instead visited local spots like Surfer’s Café just a short drive away. I read in other reviews that people who did cook during their stay encountered a lot of ants. Although we did not keep any food in the room, we did see a few ants on the kitchen counter area.
Patio with Ocean Views
The private balcony was the highlight of our stay. Furnished with an outdoor dining table and two chairs, it became our favorite spot to relax. We spent our first evening here listening to the waves crash, the trees sway, and the frogs sing—a truly magical atmosphere. During the day, the view of the ocean framed by greenery was stunning.
We also discovered the property’s namesake firsthand—after returning one night, our entire door was wet with ocean spray from the waves!

Around the Property
The Back Garden
Behind the apartments lies a lush garden area filled with tropical plants, flowers, butterflies, and the occasional lizard. It felt alive and vibrant—perfect for photography and quiet moments.
The Oceanfront Lawn
The front yard overlooks the sea, with scattered lounge chairs and unobstructed views of the Atlantic. We often saw local fishermen working in the mornings. While the waves here are too rough for swimming, it’s an excellent place to sit and enjoy the breeze.
The space has great potential but could use some upkeep—chairs were left wherever previous guests placed them, and the area wasn’t organized during our stay.

On-Site Dining
Ocean Spray advertises an on-site restaurant serving breakfast, but during our visit it was closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On our first morning (a Monday), the posted opening time was 7am, but when we inquired at reception, they said 8am. After waiting until 8:15 with no sign of staff preparing food, we decided to head elsewhere.
Luckily, Surfer’s Café was just a short drive away, and we ended up having breakfast there every day.

Proximity to Beaches & Things to Do
Ocean Spray Apartments is located on the rugged southeastern coast of Barbados. While the property is directly oceanfront, it’s important to note that it’s not within walking distance of a swimmable beach. To reach popular west coast and south coast beaches such as Carlisle Bay or Accra Beach, you’ll need to drive—typically around 45 minutes, depending on traffic. Traffic on the island, especially during commuting hours, can be heavy, so getting to those popular spots requires some patience.
That said, the location is ideal if you’re looking to explore the less-touristed southeastern coastline. Beaches like Foul Bay and Crane Beach are just a short drive away, making Ocean Spray a convenient base for discovering this side of the island. These beaches are wild, dramatic, and breathtakingly beautiful—perfect for those who want to escape the busier, more commercial stretches of sand.
In short, Ocean Spray’s location won’t suit everyone, but it works well for travelers who prefer a quieter base with easy access to the island’s raw, natural beauty.
Final Thoughts on Ocean Spray Apartments Barbados
We got an incredible deal through Airbnb for our 3 night stay (only $60 CAD a night!). So Ocean Spray Apartments exceeded our expectations as a budget accommodation in Barbados. The gardens were lovely, our room was spacious, and the balcony views were unforgettable.
While not perfect—especially if you prioritize luxury bedding or reliable on-site dining—it’s an excellent choice for budget-conscious couples or solo travelers looking for a peaceful, oceanfront base in Christ Church.
Would we stay here again? Yes, if traveling to Barbados on a budget.
