Tucked away along Tobago’s winding north coast, Parlatuvier Bay feels like a secret meant just for you. Framed by lush rainforest-covered hills and home to a tiny fishing village, this crescent-shaped bay is the kind of place that makes you slow down, breathe deeply, and soak in the raw beauty of the island.

For the Canadians following along – Parlatuvier to Tobago is the Muskoka to Ontario. Even on a gloomy day this place is magical and one of our favourite places in Tobago.

A Scenic Drive Worth Taking

Getting to Parlatuvier Bay is half the adventure. The coastal drive from either Castara or Charlotteville is breathtaking, with hairpin turns and peekaboo views of the ocean below. Just before you descend into the village, make sure to pull over at the Parlatuvier Lookout — one of Tobago’s most iconic photo spots. From here, the view of the bay, boats bobbing in the water, and the surrounding greenery looks like something off a postcard.

My favourite part of the drive is passing all of the cows between Castara and Parlatuvier.

Parlatuvier’s beach is quiet, uncrowded, and incredibly peaceful. The water is calm and swimmable most days, with gentle waves and a shoreline that invites long, lazy walks. The bay’s curve creates a natural harbor, and you’ll often see local fishing boats pulled up on the shore or heading out for the day’s catch.

There’s a river that meets the sea at one end of the beach, adding to the charm of this little cove. You might spot children splashing in the river’s shallows or local families enjoying a beach picnic under the trees.

Glasgow’s Bar: A View from Above

If you’re up for a little climb or drive uphill, Glasgow’s Bar is hands-down one of the best places to take in a panoramic view of Parlatuvier Bay. With a cold drink in hand and reggae or soca music playing in the background, it’s the perfect perch to watch the boats come and go or enjoy the colors of sunset sinking behind the hills. It’s laid-back, local, and full of character — much like the bay itself.

Swimming Conditions: A Gentle Adventure

The waters at Parlatuvier Bay are generally calm, but there is a noticeable drop-off just a few feet from shore, so it’s a good idea to ease in slowly. One fascinating thing about this beach is the frequent appearance of stingrays gliding close to shore. Locals say they’re safe to swim near, and we did spot a few during our visit — quietly drifting along the sandy bottom. As always, give marine life space and avoid stepping directly on the sand in deeper areas to stay safe.

Stingrays are often spotted close to shore at Parlatuvier Bay, gliding gracefully along the sandy seabed in the shallows. They’re drawn to the calm, warm waters and the abundance of small crustaceans and marine life that thrive in the bay’s gently sloping sandy bottom — making it an ideal feeding ground for them.

Where We Stayed: Steps from the Sand

We were lucky enough to stay just steps from Parlatuvier Bay at two different Aribnbs – both cozy and beautifully designed tucked into the hillside. The sound of the waves at night, combined with sweeping views of the ocean and surrounding rainforest, made for an unforgettable stay. The space itself was clean, thoughtfully furnished, and had everything we needed — plus, waking up and walking down to the beach in under a minute felt like a dream.

Tips for Visiting Parlatuvier Bay

Best time to go: Mid-morning or late afternoon for softer lighting and cooler temps.
Photo tip: The lookout point is best around golden hour — the way the sun hits the water is magical.

Good to know: There’s limited cell service in the area and not much shade on the beach, so plan accordingly.
